In the transportation industry “chargeable” weight refers to the greater of actual weight and volume/dimensional weight. Actual weight is the physical weight of the package when you put it on a scale. Volume or dimensional weight is based on the size of the package. Both the actual and volume weight of your packages will appear on your USA2Everywhere invoice. After adding up the total actual and volume weight of all the packages we ship to you in a specific week, USA2Everywhere will bill your transportation charges according to whichever of the two types of weight is greater (rounded to the nearest ½ kg). This weight is what is referred to as the “chargeable” weight.
Unless you are shipping very heavy items, most of the time packages will have a higher volume weight than an actual weight. For more information on how to calculate volume weight, please read the article on Calculating Volume Weight.
The example below shows the information you will be provided on each of your USA2Everywhere shipping invoices. In this example the total volume weight for all packages was greater than the actual weight. This means that the volume weight (1.49 kg) will be rounded to the nearest ½ kg (1.50) and used as the “chargeable” weight for calculating the transportation charges.
